The Sound of Silence By Simon and Garfunkel
In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone, neath the halo of a street lamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp
... And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more. People talking without speaking, People hearing without listening, People writing songs that voices never share And no one deared Disturb the sound of silence.
Fools said i,you do not know Silence like a cancer grows. Hear my words that I might teach you, Take my arms that I might reach you. But my words like silent raindrops fell, And echoed In the wells of silence
.. And the sign flashed out its warning, In the words that it was forming. And the signs said, the words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls. And whisperd in the sounds of silence.
I think this song describes Max's desires and attempts to communicate and connect, and his ultimate failure at this. While he may seem cheerful on the surface, he really is still, like Ben in The Graduate, searching for that deeper meaning that he sees with in other people but can't himself find it.
I got one word for ya, Max. Plastics.

Dibs! Let me find a good 'un! Girl By The Beatles Is there anybody going to listen to my story All about the girl who came to stay? She's the kind of girl you want so much It makes you sorry Still you don't regret a single day. Ah girl! Ffff...Girl!
When I think of all the times I've tried SO HARD to leave her She will turn to me and start to cry; And she promises the earth to me And I believe her After all this time I don't know why. Ah, girl! Ffff...Girl!
She's the kind of girl who puts you down When friends are there, you feel a fool. When you say she's looking good She acts as if it's understood. She's cool, ooh, ooh, ooh, Girl! Ffff...Girl!
Was she told when she was young that pain Would lead to pleasure? Did she understand it when they said That a man must break his back to earn His day of leisure? Will she still believe it when he's dead? Ah girl!Ffff...Girl!
I think this song describes Val's past relationships.

I Ain't as Good as I Once Was by Toby Keith
She said I've seen YOU in here before I said I've been here a time or two She said Hello my name is Bobby Joe Meet my twin sister Betty Lou AND We're both feelin' kinda wild tonight You're the only cowboy in this place AND if you're up for a rodeo I'll put a big Texas smile on your face
AND I said girls
I ain't as good as I once was I've got a few years on me now But there was a time, back in my prime When I could really lay it down if you need some love tonight Then I might have just enough I ain't as good as I once was But I'm as good once as I ever was
I still hang out with my best friend Dave I've known him since we were kids AT school Last night he had a few shots Got in a tight spot Hustlin' a game of pool With a couple of redneck boys One Great big bad biker man I heard David yell across the room Hey buddy how 'bout a helpin' hand
I said Dave
I ain't as good as I once was My how the years have flown But there was a time, back in my prime When I could really hold my own If you wanna fight tonight Guess those boys don't look all that tough I ain't as good as I once was But I'm as good once as I ever was
I used to be hell on wheels Back when I was a younger man Now MY body says you can't do this boy But my pride says oh yes you can
I ain't as good as I once was That's just the cold hard truth I still throw a few back Talk a little smack When I'm feelin' bulletproof So don't double dog dare me now 'Cause I'd have to call your bluff I ain't as good as I once was But I'm as good once as I ever was
MAY NOT BE GOOD as I once was But I'm as good once as I ever was
This Song describes how Max feels about his old age.
